2018 ANZAC Round acknowledged with respect at Gil Fraser Reserve!

Published Sun 29 Apr 2018

All games observed a minute's silence and were played in good spirits. With all four senior teams winning, the Club registered four out of six wins. It was great to see a big crowd in attendance, including several Fremantle Dockers players. I am sure they, as well as all the spectators would have been appreciative of the League's outstanding performance. The game commenced as a tough encounter with both sides seeking superiority. However it did not take too long for North to seize the initiative and control of the game in a 'master class' performance that had all the aspects of a highly skillful and organised team. The potent forward line saw goals from multiple goal scorers and the miserly back line restricted the opposition to 20 points for the entire game. The final score and win was never in doubt with North running out easy winners 18.14 (122) to Collegians 2 - 8 (20). The League remain at the top of the table, and deservedly so! Next weeks round offers a salivating top of the table clash at Kingsley!! Let's see the 'Magie Army' out there to support our lads! The B Reserves similarly faced an early challenge from Collegians, who fought hard made North work as well. But again, as the game progressed North took it by the scruff of the neck and controlled the rest of the game. It was a strong performance, restricting the opposition to just 10 points for the game, and running out comfortable winners in the end: 11 - 9 (75) to Collegians 1 - 4 (10) points. The result also sees the Reserves clear top of the table leaders, a position they will no doubt want to retain! Congratulations to coaches and players for two very good wins!

The Threes and Fours were away at Wembley and both teams won their respective games. The Fours had a real challenge on their hands with Wembley pushing our lads right to the finish. This was one of the closest games of the round. However North stood up to the challenge and maintained their steadiness to run out ultimate winners: 14 - 8 (92) to Wembley 13 - 4 (82). The Threes were also keen for a win and the opportunity for a clear top of the table position, which they achieved in comfortable style against. It was a good game with both sides working hard. But it was North who took the initiative, running out winners: 12 - 9 (81) to Wembley 6 - 4 (40). Congratulations to coaches and players for a great team effort in both games.

While the Colts were aiming for wins over the ANZAC Round, they did not eventuate. The Brett Jones Colts were away at CBC, playing under lights in a game that was a real arm wrestle. Scores were close throughout and often changing. Always hard to win at CBC! The lads gave their best and perhaps had they kicked a little more accurately, the result may have been different. The final score was: North 5 - 7 (37) to CBC 7 - 5 (47). It was a gutsy effort lads! However they retain their top of the table position! The Drew Banfield Colts knew they had a game on their hands form the outset. Collegians Colts are a very good outfit and certainly challenged North all night at the Gil! The game was of good standard and both teams vied for control. However Collegians were a little more skillful and with fewer errors, ran out ultimate winners: North 4 - 2 (26) to Collegians 8 - 11 (59). However, next week is another game and another opportunity to turn things around!

Congratulations to our two new 2018 Julian Murphy ANZAC Medallion winners on Saturday night: Daniel Saxon - Brett Jones Colts; and Ben Blockman Drew Banfield Colts. A terrific effort and great honour lads!! It is wonderful to see the tradition maintained!!
