NFAFC Coach & Major Club Partner Announcement

Published Fri 20 Jan 2017

NFAFC Coach: Shane WoewodinThe North Fremantle Amateur Football Club recently announced two pre-season football coups: securing a top-line coach; and the extension of our major Club Partnership with The Federal Hotel over the coming years. The 2000 Brownlow Medallist Shane Woewodin, who played 200 games for Melbourne and Collingwood, has been appointed senior coach for 2017. Woewodin Brownlow Medal

Woewodin has returned to WA, after any years in Melbourne and also as member of the Brisbane Lions Coaching Staff. He is already off and running with training starting on Monday 16 January, commencing at 6pm, at Gil Fraser Reserve. Preseason training will initially be Mondays and Wednesdays.

The appointment once again signals the emergence of amateur football in both standards and capacity to attract former AFL players as players and as coaches. There are AFL names dotted throughout the competition.

Club president Tony Misich (OAM) said the Woewodin appointment had sent a positive vibe through the club. “I cannot stress enough the impact Shane has already had. We are one of the oldest clubs in Western Australian Football. We have thousands of former players and many supporters, and the response to this appointment has been phenomenal,” Misich said.

Nik Jurin, owner of Fremantle’s iconic Federal Hotel, has announced a major extended sponsorship for the club. The President added, “And, I cannot emphasise enough the philanthropic approach of Nik Jurin. We offer a game of football to 300+ people on average each season and in an amateur competition division where people pay membership and match fees just to play, plus finding sponsorship is becoming more difficult. As a club we salute the Nik Jurin’s of this world because he, and others, are helping the young people of our district with a chance to be in a great club and grow.”

North Fremantle has a young core of players who form the ‘engine room’ in the League team. They have provided the legs, spirit and desire making North Freo more than a competitive side. The President stated “Shane’s appointment offers them the unique opportunity to climb to another level under his guidance and experience. In fact all teams and coaches will also have the same opportunity. “

North Fremantle Amateur Football Club prides itself on its traditions, culture and almost a century of developing young men and boys to not only reach their football potential, but to also develop confidence and a sense contributing as part of the Maggie Family, as well as the community. The President concluded, “Under Shane’s guidance this can only grow! It is now time for North to look ahead and raise the bar! Looking forward to the season commencing!”
