North Sizzle in Season Openers!

Published Sun 08 Apr 2018

A great start for the Club as North win five out of six games in the opening round of 2018. Only a six point loss stopped the perfect '6 out 0f 6' outcome.  Regardless it was a terrific effort across the board.  The tone for the day was set by the Brett Jones Colts, who made the long trip to Swan Athletic!  In an impressive performance the lads dominated all day and ran out comfortable winners;  14 - 9 (93) to Swan Athletic 1 - 5 (11).  The 82 point victory was thoroughly deserved and provides a great foundation for the rest of the year!  Congratulations to all for a great team performance!

Our first home games also provided a great start for the season!  The League, despite a slow start early in the first quarter, stamped their authority over a plucky Maddington team which made our lads earn every possession, with good pressure. However as the game progressed Norths superior speed, skills and collective team  performance held sway and the further the game went, the further North increased their lead.  It was a very good hit out for both teams, but North proved too strong on the day, running our comfortable winners:  18 - 11 (119) to Maddington 8 - 4 (52).  It was a great team performance that  impressed our numerous supporters! Congratulations boys!  Thoroughly deserved!  The B Reserves also began slowly and both sides arm wrestled for control of a fairly scrappy first half.  This enabled Maddington to exert good pressure and make North earn every kick.  However, as the game went on, North gradually got their act together, and as a team commenced taking the game away.  As with the League, the further the game went on the further North went into the lead, sunning out comfortable victors:  12 - 13 (85) to Maddington 4 - 2 (26).  Great to see the lads absorb the pressure and run away with the game in a good team performance!  Congratulations!   The final home game was an absorbing contest, under lights, against Forestdale.  It was a close game throughout with both teams striving for ascendancy in a highly contested encounter.  The efforts, skills and display of young talent was appreciated by all spectators and benches.  However, as with the previous two game, North continued to pressure and stretched their lead the further the game progressed, running out comfortable winners:  13 - 7 (85) to Forestdale 6 - 3 (39).  A great team effort!  Congratulations to all!

Oue two D Grade games also proved to be highly absorbing contests against Curtin Wesley at South Oval.  The D1 League side certainly looked the goods with their highly proficient skills and great endeavour.  The game was tight throughout with North and Curtin Wesley not giving an inch!  It was a highly contested game but North clung onto their lead and ran out deserved winners:  10 - 14 (74) to Curtin Wesley 8 - 5)  (53). Congratulations to all! The D1 Reserves game was no easier and proved an enthralling struggle from the first bounce.  It was a game for only the brave hearted, under constant pressure, with both sides working hard for a win.  However, there ultimately had to be a winner and Curtin Wesley managed to hang on for a one kick win:  North (9 - 6  (60) to Curtin Wesley 10 - 6 (66).  While the loss was heartbreaking the effort, teamwork and desire augers well for the future.  Well done lads!!

Super Saturday finished off with the popular 'Silent Disco' as celebrations continued into the night.  Many thanks to Macca & Clint, the organisers, as well as to Tammie & Brett for the catering throughout the evening.
