The highlight of the weekend was the terrific win by the Brett Jones Colts: North 6.15 (45) to TA’s 4.8 (32). This was a wonderful result by a courageous side that has been thrashed for some time, but over the past three weeks has developed the confidence and desire to believe in themselves and get back on the winners list. Congrats to Jordan, his helpers and the lads!!

However it was another ‘horribilus’ weekend with more League injuries and across all sides. The weather wasn’t great and just added to the complex puzzle of further juggling players upwards to fill numerous vacancies, up to nine in some instances and eight or so in the League.

At one stage we were on the verge of having to forfeit the D1 Reserves as we had insufficient players to plug the gaps.  However, as is the ‘Maggie Way’, the Club pulled together, calling on players and posting on social media about our critical position. The strategy worked and with some Colts also volunteering to help by playing two games we avoided the forfeit.  Huge thankyou to everyone!!

This ‘Maggie Spirit’ was translated on field with all sides giving their best in diversity! No-one shied from the challenge! No-one was daunted about the tasks! As each teams’ coaches shared at the Federal Awards presentations, they were proud of their players for the effort and commitment they gave, under adversity. Players, coaches, officials and supporters got together in big numbers at the Federal as a show of camaraderie for each other, all teams and their Club!! Many thanks to you all!

Next week is a new challenge and opportunity for sides to bounce back with wins across the grades. Yes, we have injuries, but we also have the spirit and desire to do so!! A critical week ahead, but not impossible!! Let’s see a big crowd of the Maggie Army at the Gil to urge our teams on!!! We are all part of the Maggie family!! Your support is needed in this challenging period! Players will return over time, but you all can do so much by just being at the game!
