President Report Round 12: June 30 2018

Published Sun 01 Jul 2018

The fine weather also saw some of the best football for the season from the Senior teams, winning all their games.  A terrific reunion gathering of the Inaugural 1978 Colts Premiership team and Life Members made it a special day!  Great to see so many past players who not only enjoyed their reunion celebrations but also the high quality of football put on display by the League and Reserves teams.  The crowd made Award Presentations a special night.  Everyone was in good spirits!

The exhibition put on by the League and Reserves was just inspiring, with both teams winning by twenty goals, plus.  The skills, precise ball use, relentless teamwork and superior organisation was a treat for all to see. The further the game went, the further North pushed ahead.  It was a day when all went according to the script and the Reunion and life Member group  acknowledged such a wonderful performance. The League ran out comfortable winners, retaining second spot:  23-11 (149) to Whitford 4-5 (29).  The Reserves continued their unbeaten march:  21-13 (139) to Whitford 1-4 (10).  Great percentage boosters for both sides.  Congratulations to all concerned!

Di1 Grade teams also had successful outings away from home at Whitford.  The D1 League team played cohesively and confidently all day in a match which was relatively close throughout.  However it was North who prevailed with a comfortable win that strengthens their position in the top four:  North 11.10 (76) to Whitford 8-5 (53).  Considering the D1 Reserves looked to begin with 17 men at one stage, until a couple more were added, one would have expected them to struggle all day, especially when injuries took their toll as well.  However, in the true Maggie Spirit, the lads simply knuckled down to business and carried out what they aimed to do!  In a terrific team performance, with no interchange, North powered on to be the dominant team, winning easily 12-6 (88) to Whitford 2-3 (15).  A great effort by thw D1's!  Congratulations to all.

Our Colts had a tougher day!  The Drew Banfield Colts took on the top competition side and knew they were in for a huge challenge.  Their first encounter of the season  saw Whitford win comfortably.  It's to the teams credit that they fought hard throughout a fiercely contested game where scores were close and goals hard to find!  Never relenting against the top side, North showed courage in matching Whitford all day but fell just short of winning, going down by 5 points.  Their was disappointment at being so close to toppling the ladder leader, but there was also a sense of pride in achieveing just that:  North 505 (35) to Whitford 6-4 (40).  Brett Jones Colts had to make the long journey to Wanneroo for their match.  It was always going to be a huge challenge, which most teams find at the Wanneroo Showgrounds.  However the lads fought all day against stiff opposition, never giving up, but always trying hard as a team, under tough opposition.  They can take pride in their gallant efforts throughout the game:  North 2-3 (15) to Wanneroo 9-24 (68).  Keep up the effort lads!  Next week is another opportunity for a win!
