President Report Round 13: June 7 2018

Published Sun 08 Jul 2018

Round 13 saw a mixed bag of results with a draw, three wins and two losses.  On a fine Saturday we had high expectations which were confirmed in some games, but fell short in others.  Of all games perhaps the most disappointing was the League, ending their day with a draw.  After the scintillating performance the previous week, the lads were nowhere near their best and seemed to go through the motions against a more determined Collegians team..  It was not a great game, to say the least. Coming from 10 points behind the lads held Collegians scoreless in the final term and had ample opportunity to win, kicking one goal four points.  However it was not to be, resulting in a drawn game:  North 7-11 (53) to Collegians 8-5 (53). The salvaged point retains their clear second spot on the ladder.   Next week the lads need to be at their best for the top of the table clash at home.  The Reserves however continued their unbeaten record with a massive win over Collegians:  16-12 (108) to 2-4 (16). Another terrific game lads!  Keep it up!

North D1's were at home to Wembley, Both our D1 Reserves and Wembley were struggling to fill a team and the other official positions required on the day.  It was somewhat embarrassing to have our coach take on the boundary umpire's role in the second half because there was no one else available.  The lads were up against it from the outset, but they certainly gave their all in a brave effort, going down in the end: 3-7 (25) to 6-6 (42).  There is one huge message from this game - we need more players on the training track to ensure a team and get to know each other.  The D1 League, despite also being depleted, were on task from the outset!  They controlled the game and proved superior on the day, winning: 9-9 (63) to 3-20 (28).  Well done lads!  The result keeps them ensconced in the top four.

Drew Banfield Colts enjoyed a well deserved victory away from home against Collegians, the second top team.  The lads played well together, with strong desire to notch up another win. Great to see the boys playing with confidence as a well-knit unit.  Congratulations on a very good win:  8-6 (54) to 6-6 (42).  The Brett Jones Colts took on CBC in a home night game that prove a real arm wrestle for both teams. The lead changed several times in a fiercely contested game.  North are to be congratulated for their fighting spirit throughout, but just fell short in the end: 5-3 (33) to 7-2 (44).

Next weekend, Saturday 14 July, is huge for the Club!  A salivating League top of the table clash against undefeated Kingsley is the main event of the day!  This should be a ripper of a game and North need to repay some of the disrespect aimed at them at the last encounter.  We need a 'Huge Maggie Army' turnout on the day:  Life Members; Alliance Members; Sponsors; past players; families; and players from other sides.  Let's make it a BIG day and night and Award Presentations for the Club,  Be there!  Be vocal! Get behind the Club!!
