President Report Round 16: July 28 2018

Published Sun 29 Jul 2018

Four wins out of six games was a good result as finals positions are consolidated by the League; Reserves; Thirds and Drew Banfield Colts. League locked in second position, Reserves top position, Thirds vying for second and DBC Colts fighting for fourth spot. The Drew Banfield Colts set the scene for home games against Thornlie.  It has to be said Thornlie were indisciplined and tried to unsteady North, who resisted the aggression.  North, perhaps played their best football for the year, remaining focused and sticking to their structures with skill and passion.  The result was never in doubt, with the lads running out comfortable winners: 14-4 (88) to Thornlie (4-5 (29). Congratulations lads!

The League also bounced back with speed, precision and overall strong teamwork!  While Thornlie gave all in the first quarter, they were never able to match North, who grew stronger as the game progressed, ultimately winning by a big margin: 19-9 (123) to Thornlie 4-5 (29). Favourable results in other games ensure North second position and a home final.  Great effort to all concerned! The Reserves were somewhat slow to start but steadily moved into their familiar teamwork enabling them to tear through the opposition.  Had we kicked straighter the win would have been significantly larger. Regardless the Reserves remain locked in at the top of the ladder and also earn a home final.  North 10-19 (79) to Thornlie 4-5 (29)

Away games were a University and these were always going to be tough.  In a boil over, North D1 League (Thirds) turned the screws on Uni, who have been perched at the top of the ladder for somem time.  It was an outstanding effort against a fancied opposition who were expected to win.  However, the Thirds were relentless and perhaps played their best football of the year, running out comfortable winners:  North 12-8 (80) to Uni 7-11 (53).  Congratulations to the lads who now have the opportunity to consolidate their position on the ladder.  However both the D1 Reserves (Fourths) and Brett Jones Colts found Uni a tough nut to crack.  Both teams were undermanned, but never stopped trying, in true Maggie Spirit.  Fourths 8-9 (57) to Uni 14-4 (88) and BJC Colts 2-5 (17) to Uni 8-12 (60). Next week is a new challenge - all the best!

Great to see the 2008 Premiership reunion! Thanks for coming to the Club and adding to a very good and vocal. home crowd!
