President Report Round 8: 26 May 2018

Published Sun 27 May 2018

On a blustery and wet weekend North win three from six games!  However the weather did not dampen the many attendees and highly successful Ladies Night!   A huge thank you to all concerned!  And thank you to all who contributed to fund raising for the ‘Cure Brain Cancer Foundation!’

Despite the weather and under lights, the League team, in their pink Ladies Night jumpers, bounced out looking fresh and determined for a victory against West Coast, in front of a big home crowd.  The entire game was an arm wrestle with neither side giving quarter.  The strong, blustery wind favoured the northern end and looked to be a big influence on the game.  However both sides managed to score with and against it.  More so North, who in the final quarter were able to extend their slender lead of two goals to over four.  It was a tough, gruelling game!  One not for the faint hearted!  The tackling was fierce and the ball skills fluent, despite the conditions.  It was a credit to both teams to play at such a high standard!  Ultimately it was North who were able to control more of the ball, especially towards the end of the game, that saw them deserved winners!  NF 11-10 (76) to West Coast 7-4 (46). Always great to win those close encounters.  Plus it boosted everyone’s spirits for ‘Ladies Night!’  Congratulations to the lads and Coaches!

The ‘B Reserves’ continued on their winning streak with a strong victory over West Coast.  Conditions were difficult earlier in the day, but did little to blunt North’s enthusiasm!  Ultimately the Reserves’ skills, efficiency, game style and speed proved too much for a gallant opposition.  The win keeps them undefeated on top of the ladder!  Congratulations to all: NF 9-6 (60) to West Coast 1-2 (8).

Unfortunately the Drew Banfield Colts were unable to return to the winners list.  The game was close and hard fought!  But a slow start by North allowed West Coast to score some easy early goals.  North lifted as the game went on and in true fighting spirit, put themselves in a position to win. But that was not to be!  The effort put in showed the lads are on the verge of winning!  Next week is the opportunity!

Of the away games, only the Fourths were victors.  They proved too skilled and good for TA’s in the wintry conditions, running out easy winners:  North 9-10 (64) to TA’s 3-8 (26).  The win will help with ladder position. The Thirds however encountered a stronger opposition and despite fighting hard all day, were unable to overhaul them in the end.  It was a gallant effort!  North 6-8 (44) to TA’s 10-6 (66).  The Brett Jones Colts were up against tough opposition at Whitfords, who dominated all day.   Being undermanned both on and off the bench was always going to make it tough!  This will need to be addressed for next week!  However the lads fought hard throughout.  A win is not far off lads!  (No scores available)
