PRESIDENT REPORT: Round Seven

Published Sun 26 May 2019

Two wins out of six games on the weekend with a somewhat sombre end to the League game. A Reserves and D1 League good winners on Saturday!

Biggest winner on the day was the A Reserves Team which is progressing nicely each week.  Their's was a masterful performance against Trinity Aquinas at Bill Grayden Reserve.  North stamped their superiority early in the game and continued to dominate the further the game progressed.  It was a superlative display which consolidates their ladder position. North 11.15 (81)  TA's 6.8 (44).  Congratulations to all involved!

Congratulations also to the D1 League who rose to the challenge and won a very good game at home, against very good opposition in TA's.  It was a close encounter throughout and a terrific display of hard honest football where the lead swapped between sides, with the game up for grabs in the final quarter.  North, with the aid of a good breeze significantly lifted their ratings and ran away with the game.  Their win was thoroughly deserved and welcomed, as it will helps ladder position.  North 10.6 (66)  TA's 8.2 (50).

Phli Scott Colts put in another solid performance against TA's in a highly entertaining encounter.  The game was close throughout and could have gone either way.  There was no letting up and both sides gave all they had.  In the end, the result was decided by accuracy in front of goal.  North had their chances, 16 to 11 scoring shots.  North 6.10  (46) to TA's 9.2  (56).  The Brett Jones Colts had a solid hit out, bouncing out of the the blocks and kicking three quick goals to give them a good lead against Whitford.  They remained in the contest all first half, putting pressure on their opponents.  It was a true arm wrestle.  However, as the game progressed, Whitford took away the initiative and gradually extended their lead deep in the second half, making fewer errors and better use of the football. Regardless, the Colts can be proud of their effort!  Again, they continue to improve and again reduced the margin between their opposition and own final score.  North 4.5  (29)  Whitford 9.10  (64). Well done lads and coaches!

D1 Reserves found it hard going from the outset, against a very good TA outfit, who were just better than North.  The difference became more exaggerated as the game progressed.  It really was hard work for our lads.  But, they never capitulated.  Inevitably the result went TA's way.  North 3.4  (22)  TA's 14.8  (92).  Again lads, we need numbers on the track if we are to improve.

The final game on the day saw the League go down to TA's. North were in the game but found the narrower oval somewhat restrictive and could not get into their slick ball movement style.  Unfortunatley, the 'ugly side' of football reared its head leading to three North players, bloodied and having to leave the field, one of whom was rushed to emergency dental surgery, and subsequently to hospital for emergencey surgery  to his jaw.  These incidents understanably unsettled our group and with other questionable things. it ended a very disappointing and sombre day. Matters will be followed up! North 6.6  (42)  TA's 11.12  (78).
