President's Report: Round Four

Published Sat 06 May 2017

Another big weekend for the Club with five out of six wins.  Our teams performed very well at Kelmscott against a side which is trying to rebuild in difficult times. However they were never a match for our two B teams.  The League produced a masterful performance, from start to finish, never releasing the pedal and stormed to a good percentage boosting win:  25.12 (168) to 2.2 (14).  A good warm up for their twilight game at 5pm this coming Saturday - 'Ladies Day at The Gil!!'  The B Reserves were just as irresolute and focused as they too overpowered Kelmscott with relentless pressure and desire all day in a very one sided affair.  They also powered to a massive percentage boosting win:  28.15 (183) to 0.2 (2).   It was a great team effort for both our teams.  Congratulations to all!

At home, the D2 Reserves bounced back to the winners' list against a lesser opponent in North Beach.  The game commenced as a tight tussle but it wasn't long before North started switching to their game plan and taking control.  The longer the game went, the better North played, running out clear winners:  19.21 (135) to North Beach 0.1 (1).  A big percentage booster and good team effort by all!  The D2's found the going somewhat of a challenge in the first half of their game against North Beach, who threw everything at us.  It was a half of unnecessary errors, insufficient commitment and inconsistency with their game plan.  Following a reality check from the coach at half time, the D2's bounced out in the second half with their game plan in tact, with desire and with better skills to take the game by the neck and pull away as the superior team. Ultimately North ran out clear winners: 14.18 (102) to North Beach 5.4 (34). Congratulations to both our teams.

The final match of the day was the Brett Jones Colts home twilight game against North Beach, with a good crowd in attendance!  Our lads were somewhat flat in the first half, with too many errors against a good North Beach team. However the lads did steady and managed to keep scores close and themselves in the game.  After half time it was still anyone's game, with perhaps North Beach looking the winner.  But a late revival by our lads through additional pressure, better team organisation and real desire, saw them claw their way to almost snatching victory.  However North Beach remained irresolute and hung on to a win by a small margin.  Our lads are still learning and that second half is a good stepping stone to the future.  A good effort boys!

The Drew Banfield Colts were awarded 4 points with the Kelmscott Colts forfeiting.  While the points are welcomed, the  loss of game time is not.  This Thursday night, 11th May,  the DBC lads play against CBC at Buzzacott Oval, commencing at 7:30pm.  The reschedule is caused by the 'Grooving the Moo' concert down south, attended by many lads across all teams.  Rather than lose more game time the two clubs have preferred to play Thursday night.  Get down there and cheer our boys on.

"Ladies Day!" - next Saturday, 13 May, at 'The G', with colts kicking off at 12:30pm, B reserves at 2:30pm and the B League at 5:00pm - AND - the ladies kicking off in the afternoon to watch the League, then all ticket holders to the Club Rooms...and no doubt...to Metro's later that evening.  It's always a great event and will be so again!!  Tickets are selling fast!  Make sure you get yours!!!
