PRESIDENTS REPORT: Round Thirteen

Published Sat 08 Jul 2017

Round Thirteen saw another productive weekend of football with North winning four out of six games!  All four senior sides continued on their winning ways, each maintaining their top of the table positions!  A good place to be as we near the business end of the season.  The Colts unfortunately lost their games, but both sides remain in contention for finals football!  The Drew Banfield Colts were at home against a very good Kingsway side.  The contest was enthralling with the lead changing throughout the game.  It was a high standard game and either side were worthy of the four points.  Ultimately it was Kingsway who held on at the very end to defeat North bi three solitary points: 8.8 (54) to 9.5 (59.  Congratulations to both teams for a great game!

The League and Reserves were at home against Kelmscott.  Both teams were keen for a win to retain their top spots.  For those who watched the League game  they witnessed an impressive display of hard running and powerful football throughout the day.  North was clinical and meticulous with their game plans and took apart their opponents with precision and confidence.  An Eleven goal first quarter virtually sealed the match!  Kelmscott did come back with greater commitment after a blast at quarter time and managed to kick sa few goals over the remainder of the game.  However, North just continued on their merry way drawing further ahead as the game went on to run out ultimate winners in a big percentage booster:  27.11 (173) to 4.7 (27).  Terrific team performance lads!!

Whilst the Reserves were ready for a big game, it did not eventuate, with Kelmscott forfeiting due to insufficient numbers.  It's not really what the team wanted as the score allocations were 15 goals to North and 0 goals to their opponent.  A far greater percentage booster could have been achieved by the Reserves if they had played.  Plus not having a game and match pressure for a week is also not desirable this time of the year.

The D2's traveled to Kingsley for their later twilight games and both proved to strong for their opponents and added more good percentage boosters to their tally.  The D2 Thirds established their authority early in the game and continued to do so as the match progressed.  In a very good performance the Thirds rn out comfortable winners: 10.10 (70) to 4.2 (26).  The D2 Fourths were even more dominant in their game, bouncing out of the blocks early and blasting the game away, quarter by quarter.  In a very strong team performance they also ran out comfortable winners: 15.15 (104) to 1.4 (10).

Our Brett Jones Colts possible had the most difficult challenge being away alone at Charles Riley Reserve against the top side, North Beach.  It was always going to be a hard game ans that's how it panned out.  Given the quality of the opponent, North put in a great effort to remain in contention. However, North Beach are not on top by chance - they are a quality team - and overpowered our lads who gave all!  Who knows, had they kicked straighter, the game could have been a lot closer.  Ultimately the lads went down:  3.12 (30) to 6.7 (43).  Make up for it next week lads!!
