President's Report: Round Three

Published Sat 29 Apr 2017

A good weekend for North with five out of six victories.  North won all three games at home against Collegians, with the Drew Banfield Colts setting the tone of the day with a hard fought win:  8.7 (55) to 6.4 (40).  It was a tight struggle all day, but the lads dug in, stuck to their game plan and gradually pulled away from Collegians, who were gallant in defeat.  Great team effort to the lads and congratulations to everyone!

In contrast the B reserves were simply too skilled and powerful against their Collegian counterparts, right from the outset. North played with authority and a hunger for victory in a great team performance: 19.10 (124) to 3.2 (20). There are many highly skilled players in the Reserves who are creating good competition for places in the League side.  Keep it up lads!

The highlight of the day was the League team bouncing back to a hard fought victory against a good Collegians side. The early arm wrestle between the teams was intriguing, but the longer the game progressed the more North rose to the challenge and broke away.  There was no questioning our lads' commitment and desire to win.  The second half saw North in control of the game as they piled on goals and kicked away to a well deserved victory: 10.12 (72) to 4.4 (28).  A great team effort and congratulations to all!

While the Brett Jones Colts were alone in their game at Collegians, with the D's playing at Mt Lawley, our Colts were switched on and hungry for a win.  Their desire and efforts certainly paid off as they dominated against Collegians to a comfortable victory: 13:24 (102) to 5:2 (32).  Great to see the boys notch up their first win for the season.  Impressive team effort and congratulations boys, plus Snake, for his fist coaching win of the year!

The D2 teams have been totally dominant all season, but the lads knew Mt Lawley would be a much harder challenge, which the D2 Reserves (Fourths) found out.  In a tough encounter both sides gave everything to win the game.  Ultimately it was a better Mt Lawley side that steadied and ran away with the game: 10.2 (62) to an inaccurate North 6.6 (42).  In contrast the Thirds were totally dominant again, through good skills, deft play and adhering to the game play.  The lads were rarely challenged and ran out big winners: 15.15 (105) to 2.5 (17). Overall the B Reserves, D2 Thirds and Drew Banfield Colts remain undefeated!

Another weekend highlight was the great turnout for awards at Saturday night's 'Mexican Function.'  Great to see so many Colts there! Many thanks to Sammy for the catering and special Mexican refreshments!  Next week the BJC Colts have a twilight game commencing at 5pm.  Let's see everyone there to cheer them on to another victory!!
